Introduction
The present-day nursing setting is rife with multiple challenges and thoroughly saturated with a variety of opportunities related to the expansion of collaboration among nurses, active knowledge sharing, and effective management of patients’ needs. The interview with Emilia, a registered nurse, has helped me examine the intricate trajectory for the nursing history, embrace the complexity of present-day nursing, and analyze the core challenges that nurses must face in the modern environment. Although significant progress has been achieved over the decades of the nursing theory development, the current issues require active learning and knowledge-sharing long with the development of cross-0cultural competences in order to meet emergent needs of diverse populations.
Reflection on Learning from Nurse’s Answers
The interview conducted with Emilia has provided an array of insights into the current challenges faced by nurses, as well as the nature of the challenges in question and the possible means of addressing them. Amon the issues relevant to the present-day nursing setting, the insights into the recent global health issue, namely, the coronavirus, have been particularly useful and important. Specifically, Emilia explained that the Covid-19 pandemic had demonstrated the drastic lack of proper preparedness for health-related risks and, most importantly, disasters that could entail the emergence of a health concern of a global scale.
The specified insight aligns with the key research results conducted on the subject matter (Miles & Scott, 2019). Indeed, the recent studies prove that the inability to provide an immediate response and introduce the global population to the concepts of a quarantine and the necessity to wear PPE have amassed to a plethora of complications and fatal outcomes (Miles & Scott, 2019). Therefore, there are strong indications of the lack of an effective framework for promoting health literacy to the global population. Specifically, the lack of homogeneity in the instructions provided to local communities coupled with the reduced access to the necessary information and the presence of prejudices against the proposed solutions among some of the target audiences have led to a range of fatal outcomes (Miles & Scott, 2019). The specified tragedy should be viewed as a somber yet crucial lesson in addressing the issue of patient education in the nursing context.
Insight Gained from Conversation Regarding Leadership, Provision of Care, and/or Evidence-Based Practice
Similarly, the interview with Emilia has helped shed light on some of the issues regarding leadership in the nursing context. For instance, the problems regarding the prevention and management for medical errors in the nursing setting have been addressed as one for the core concerns for nurses nowadays. Indeed, reports assert that the issue of medical errors remains one for the dominant factors in an increased length of hospital stay in patients, as well as the failure to address p[patients’ health concerns effectively (Miles & Scott, 2019). Moreover, the admission of medical errors in the nursing and clinical practices leads to the development for comorbid health issues that, in turn, may cause a rapid deterioration of a patient’s condition (Miles & Scott, 2019). Consequently, appropriate leadership strategies must be utilized to ensure that medical errors do not occur in the target setting.
Analysis of Impact of Nursing History on Professional Practice Today and in the Future
The interview has also demonstrated the effects that the nursing history has produced on the present-day nursing context. Moreover, there are indications that nursing history is likely to affect the future to a considerable extent. Specifically, the essence for nursing and its primary nature, specifically, care for those in need, has been shaping the course of nursing frameworks, theories, and strategies’ development throughout its history (Miles & Scott, 2019). Indeed, a closer look at the history of nursing will show that the initial theoretical frameworks stemmed from a patient-oriented approach, such as the tenets of Florence Nightingale’s nursing theory (Miles & Scott, 2019). While the further transformation of the approach to nursing has introduced new perspectives into it, the history for nursing continues to shape its present and future with the current patient-oriented, culturally diverse strategies (Miles & Scott, 2019).
Furthermore, the future of nursing, which is likely to be characterized by a global outreach and active international and cross-cultural collaboration and communication, is expected to enhance the specified trend. Therefore, there are indications that the history of nursing has been affecting the development of the present-day approached and the future trends. Admittedly, innovative solutions have also shaped the present-0-day perspectives, yet the general trends have been mostly affected by the history and legacy of nursing.
Conclusion
Although the progress attained in the nursing sector over the past couple of decades has been tremendous compared to the history for nursing, in general, further efforts must be taken to counteract emergent issues and health needs of an increasingly diverse demographic. By engaging in active cross-cultural experiences and promoting active knowledge sharing in cross-disciplinary, international setting, nurses will be able to advance the current quality of care and contribute to the improvement in patient recovery rates. Furthermore, the focus on evidence-based research and practice will encourage nurses to introduce innovative ideas ad insights into the clinical practice context. As a result, the opportunity to change the course of history and introduce innovative solutions that will improve patients’ quality of life, as well as their lifespan, in general, will become readily available.
