Communication and partnership are the two paramount contributors to building teams. A team is a number of interdependent people integrated for a common purpose. The members of the team are expected to communicate and cooperate to achieve a single mission. The above issues are important as they allow the team to work more effectively in providing high-quality health care delivery. For example, when different specialists work with one patient, it is crucial to communicate to ensure the appropriateness of prescribed medicine and procedures. At that, the effective team consists of the following attributes: engagement, listening, consensus, shared leadership, clear roles, and others.
I learned that team-building should be based on trust, respect, and shared values. In turn, it leads to the synergy that cannot be achieved by a single individual. Synergy supposes commitment, active listening, and flexibility that help the leader to build an effective team. The role of the leaders is to ensure that the team will function successfully. In this regard, they should clearly explain the expected behavior to every team member. Finally, I found the 4 C’s of leadership in team-building quite useful tool to provide communication and partnership within the team. Care, control, confidence, and character development represent the essence of this model.
