Discussion of Health Care Improvement

Both Homestead Hospital and Baptist Hospital of Miami are acute care health units. According to the data provided, they have the following types of quality metrics; first psychiatric unit services that measure the frequency at which inpatient psychiatric amenities provide the best services to individuals with mental health issues. Second, timely and effective care indicates the effectiveness of the health facility in offering quality services to patients with different conditions (“Babtist Hospital of Miami,” n.d). Third, payment and value care show the comparison in terms of spending for Medicare across various hospitals in the nation. The fourth metric is complications and deaths that measure the outcomes from the treatment services like injuries or related deaths. Lastly, unplanned hospital visits indicate chances of a patient coming back to the facility for further treatment.

According to the data, there were insignificant variations in the overall quality ratings. Homestead hospital has a low number of readmission and mortality rate than Baptist Hospital of Miami (Homestead Hospital, n.d.). Furthermore, concerning the safety of care, Baptist health care has a higher rating while both the hospitals had equal measures of patient experience, timely and effective care. I have learned from the hospitals that they both focus on delivering high-quality services to their clients to enhance patient safety. I am surprised by the rate of mortality where facilities register a high rate of deaths.

Based on the statistic, improvement focus should be directed at readmission. The rate at which patients revisits the health facilities is high, especially at Baptist Hospital. Such unplanned visits may cause infections to the patients, which may result in further complications. The health care facilities should formulate ways of tracing the progress of patients released from the hospitals to minimize possible revisits. The data provided numerical relation that is easier to relate, for example, 11 out of 11 readmission rates at Baptist hospital.
