The Issue of the Drug Addiction

Introduction

Drug addiction is one of the main causes of social dangers that have become widespread in society and threaten people’s lives and health. Drug addiction is a threat to all mankind, currently, there are about 200 million drug addicts worldwide (Rolando & Beccaria, 2019). Drug use is one of the most serious problems, as the number of drug addicts is constantly growing, and their average age is decreasing. The problem is aggravated by the criminal situation, and the risk of contracting various infections, including AIDS. The two most controversial drug issues that affect our communities today are family issues and the loss of valuable employees due to the onset of health problems.

Discussion

The first drug issue that affects our communities today is the impact of drug addiction on the family. Drug addicts create unbearable conditions for their families, not giving their loved ones opportunities for a normal life. They poison it with their presence, depriving the family of means of subsistence, and commit a grave crime against offspring (Rolando & Beccaria, 2019). This is due to the fact that some metabolic disorders associated with drug use by parents are transmitted to children, drug use during pregnancy directly poisons the child.

In addition, drug addicts, degrading physically and morally, die prematurely, failing to meet the expectations that parents always have with the birth of a child, and society with the appearance of a new citizen. Drug addiction is the cause of non-fulfillment of marital and parental responsibilities, as a result of which the younger generation is at risk due to neglect. At the same time, they seek to draw other people into this vice, first of all, young people. According to statistics, an addict involves from 10 to 15 people in the web of unhealthy addiction, among them are family members, friends, and acquaintances (Nkansa-Gyamfi et al., 2019). Therefore, the addiction of one person poses a threat not only to the family but also to the whole society.

The second public issue related to drug use is the loss of valuable employees due to the onset of health problems. Drug addiction causes great material and moral damage to society, being the cause of accidents at work during drug intoxication among workers. Drugs have taken the first place among the culprits of premature death of people and have already outstripped cardiovascular diseases and malignant tumors (Rolando & Beccaria, 2019). Drug addicts are objectively and subjectively bad workers, since their physical condition is unsatisfactory, periodically occurring abstinence does not allow them to realize their labor potential to the maximum.

The cardiovascular, immune, excretory, respiratory, reproductive systems, liver, musculoskeletal systems, and gastrointestinal tracts suffer from toxic effects. Functional abnormalities and structural changes can lead to irreversible complications, failure of any organ, and death. Mental disorders are caused by the destruction of brain cells and nerve endings (Nkansa-Gyamfi et al., 2019). This leads to hallucinations, phobias, delusions, neuroses, psychoses, dementia, schizophrenia, loss of memory, coordination, logical thinking, and speech functions. These health issues prevent the addict from fulfilling their work duties.

Conclusion

In my opinion, drug addiction is a global problem that requires an immediate solution. It seems to me that prevention should be focused on identifying and eliminating the social and socio-psychological causes of addiction. I believe that drug addiction in individual cells of society arises due to a decrease in the authority and attractiveness of the institution of the family. In addition, I think that the lack of testing for predisposition to the risk of anesthesia in the workplace also contributes to the spread of social issues in communities. In my opinion, drug addiction is a problem not only for several family members, but for the whole society, so the problem requires global solution measures.
