Discussion of Obesity in Modern Life

Obesity is defined by having a large percentage of fats in the body. It is a complex disease that has become a common health issue as well as a social issue. For decades, obesity has turned out to be a significant health problem in society. From the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC, 2019) statistics, approximately 93.3 million adults and 13.7 million children and teens have obesity in the United States, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC, 2019). Being a social problem, obesity can be prevented in various ways. Firstly, incorporating funny and exciting physical activities will help reduce obesity. This is because many people fear exercising due to the fatigue and nature of exercises (Lee et al., 2019). Introducing fun into physical activities, such as running when accomplishing social agendas like campaigns, movements, and celebrations will help people reduce fat levels built up in the body. Secondly, encouraging walking or running when going to school, work, or other places that are not far (Lee et al., 2019). Lastly, involving all age groups in various social work helps in reducing obesity because it makes people occupied both physically and mentally (Lee et al., 2019).

Food industries have a significant role to play in the fight against obesity. This is because they process food products with high sugar contents and fats (Binks, 2016). Furthermore, they advertise on various social media accounts on the products known to have high calories (Binks, 2016). It is their role and duty to protect and maintain the health of their clients. Society will follow the lead when these companies begin manufacturing food products with low calories and advertise their low-calorie content.
