Masks as Part of the Attire
For the past year, masks have become a necessity in our lives – not only do they protect the user and others from spreading the virus, but they also are a requirement for entering many public spaces (Kim et al., 2021). Thus, there is a necessity to incorporate masks into the new emerging styles. While there are many types of masks with prints on the market, fashion designers seem to focus on the uniform black mask variant, as those can easily fit into any type of look, having a ubiquitous quality to them (Feiam, 2021).
Return of the 70s-80s Look
The recent fashion exhibitions from various top companies, such as Blumarine, Miu Miu, and Valentino, as well as Dolce and Gabbana, show the return of a classic 70-80s look into fashion (Feiam, 2021). These include shoulder pad jackets, oversized handbags, knee-high boots, headscarves, and folk-inspired coats, shouting back to the various hippie movements of the day. The popular colors appear to be pastel, brown and yellow, as well as white, for the boots (Feiam, 2021). Yellow handbags appear to be an emerging trend, presented both on the podium and on the streets. While the source of the trend is unclear, its existence is undeniable. Some of the benefits offered by this particular style are its relative longevity and ubiquitousness – the bags, for example, can fit into almost any style, and have been popular even before the existing hype (Gill, 2021).
Emerging Fabric Trends
The emerging fabric trends are connected to the clothes designs and choices illustrated above. However, there’s also a trend to cater to eco-friendly trends, with choices of fabrics made to illustrate the pattern. While nylon and chiffon are predicted to remain popular throughout 2021, more attention should be given to woven fabrics as well as eco-dying, using natural colorants (“Textile trends,” 2021). This fits well into the trend for pastel colors, which are easy to produce using natural colorants. One popular color pattern to emerge is the so-called ocean pattern, which appears in a form of irregularities in coloration from natural dying processes using the blue color (“Textile trends,” 2021).
