It is the responsibility of a counselor to protect the integrity of the relationship with a client despite the dynamic outcomes. Dr. Alby is Kevin’s psychotherapist who notices a significant change in behavior with the patient. The main reason for the radical transformation regards the loss of the father due to the separation of the parents. It is an endeavor that pressures the individual towards seeking alternative approaches to deal with the situation. However, the ethical dilemma arises once Dr. Alby acknowledges that Kevin’s mother decided to take him to a boarding school where his daughter is currently doing her studies. On the one hand, as a psychoanalyst, the major ethos matters engulf beneficence, veracity, fidelity, no maleficence, and justice, and Dr. Alby is mandated to observe them as a profession in the field of medicine (American Counseling Association, 2014). On the other hand, Dr. Alby fears that the compromise of his daughter’s study life with the Kevin being in the vicinity of the learning institution with erratic behavior. The code of virtues fosters the preservation of an objective overview of issues based on the interaction between a psychologist and victim.
As a member of the peer supervision group with Dr. Alby, I would advise him to focus on playing the role of a counselor than as a concerned parent. The integration of emotional feelings as a profession compromises the integrity of Dr. Alby’s performance and ethical practice. Therefore, it is crucial to enhance the division between Kevin’s private life and Dr. Alby’s family’s well-being and endeavors. It is an approach that renders the preservation of the patient’s autonomy based on the offers given by his mother for a better life. Further, enrollment in one of the best performing learning institutions exposes the child to morally and influential peers as a support system for the behavior change. In this case, the therapist must ensure the optimal balance of beneficence and justice without the fear of prejudice (American Counseling Association, 2014). However, I would warn Dr. Alby against revealing details about his personal life and mainly his daughter’s enrollment in the same learning institution as Kevin. In this case, the psychologist enhances the objective reasoning and practice within the scope of the code of ethics.
It is the responsibility of a counselor to organize the practice competently and ethically. The patient and I develop feelings for each other after engaging in a few therapy sessions. On the one hand, the state compromises the moral duty of a practitioner due to the lack of an objective approach in providing advice (Kaplan et al., 2017). On the other hand, it is important to enhance the code of ethics concerning safeguarding the integrity of the relationships between the psychologist and the patient. The ethical dilemma is the prominent solution to utilize based on the compromise of the professional practice for developing romantic attraction with the individual.
One of the key factors to consider during the relationship-building with the patient is the necessity to preserve veracity as a professional code of ethics. It is crucial to deal truthfully with the individual under the spectrum of the practice hence establishing the core matters affecting the efficiency in the delivery system. In this case, the main objective involves implementing the code of ethics regarding the avoidance of actions that potentially cause harm to the victims (American Counseling Association, 2014). On the one hand, my feelings for the accountant could be genuine or infatuated from the strong bond developed during the sessions. On the other hand, aligning the interests towards building the relationship may potentially interrupt in the healing process due to the mental condition. It is the responsibility of a therapist to honor diversity and the multicultural contexts to support the integrity and worthiness across the scape of interrelatedness.
The decision-making process in the field of profession encapsulates the objective consideration of the variables affecting both parties. I utilize the model in the first exhibit that clearly distinguishes the factors to consider. Apart from increasing the risk of encouraging actions that potentially harm the patient, developing a personal affinity influences the autonomous essence due to the elevated responsibility and accountability towards the other partner (Kaplan et al., 2017). The final decision lies in the aspect of mutually focusing on investing in the romantic connection or canceling the entire ordeal. If there is a mutual baseline between the counselor and the individual, it is crucial to nullify the association based on the psychologist-client platform. However, in a situation that both entities forbid the union, it is critical to consider the void of the sessions and the ongoing medical procedure to enhance coherent integrity in the reports.
Consequently, it is important to establish an objective overview of the interrelatedness between a psychologist and a client. This is an approach that promotes professionalism across the field of medicine due to the focus on healthy recovery over personal interests. In the case of Dr. Alby, it is crucial to consider discretion to cultivate a borderline between the client’s autonomous decisions and his daughter’s well-being. As a counselor, it is vital to protect the quality of the connectedness with the patient. Therefore, my decision to abolish the sessions with the accountant lies on the margin of enhancing quality care.
