The article is based on western workers who fight for better working conditions. These workers include the grocery clerks, the teachers, and Ski patrollers who are pushing for fair pay and support for their jobs. These employers have decided to go to the street to demonstrate reasonable pay as per the degree of risk that they are exposed to while on duty. The essential workers for instance the Ski Patrollers who have been working through perilous conditions to provide for their families and as well for the childcare and health insurance, have asked for appropriate support. In response, the Ski patrollers have gained support from the Park City residents who aid the workers in their campaign for better pay. According to Moriarty a fourth-year patroller and a business manager at Park City, Ski patrolling should no longer be recognized as a hobby but rather as a career. To achieve this goal, she wanted Park City Professional Ski Patrol Association (PCPSPA) and Vail Resorts Inc. to be aware of the change.
After the Ski patrollers unanimously agreed to strike, the union ratified that they should be paid at a rate of $19/hour while $ 16/hour for the rookies. Even though, after striking the contract deal, that ensured better patrol and wages, PCPSPA still announced that it will still ensure that the workers’ rights are maintained. The teachers too have been affected by the same situation as the Ski Patrollers, the teachers have been doing much work during the corona epidemic. Some of the issues that teachers have had to do include guiding the students on how they can socialize with one another in a world that is socially distanced. Grocery store employees, like teachers, offer a vital service that keeps society running properly. Unlike most schools, however, grocery shops are for-profit, with a board of investors attempting to maximize stockholder returns. It is sickening that so many employees are affected by food insecurity while being surrounded by it.
The economic condition in United State is not favorable to the Ski Patrollers since they are unable to provide for their families such as the provision of food and cater for proper healthcare. The situation that is presented by the prevailing circumstances in Park City, United States represents the theory of inflation. The three groups of workers; Ski Patrollers, teachers, and grocery clerks are affected by the fact that the prices of goods and services are expensive as compared to the amount of pay (Lueders, 2022). It is because of the existing high stand of living that exists in the United State due to several reasons including the existing coronavirus epidemic that had hindered economic growth for the past two years. The theory of inflation that best describes the economic situation is cost-push inflation, which describes a substantial increase in the cost of various vital services and goods that are needed as basic needs.
In the future, this economic situation is likely to change when actions are taken to help the workers to get better wages. The government could help the workers for instance grocery clerks to be able to budget the amount of wages paid by reducing the costs of production. Additionally, in the future when the Covid -19 situation shall have ceased, with the increased rates of wages, the economic situation shall have normalized as well as the cost of living.
